Area/Velocity Flowmeters for Wastewater Collection System Applications  Performance Evaluation Report

PER98FM-001

This test report presents results of six area/velocity flowmeters field-tested  in a wastewater collection system over a period of five to six months at three different test sites utilizing small, medium and large collection system pipelines subjected to a range of flow conditions. 

Four different flowmeter technologies were evaluated including electromagnetic, ultrasonic, ultrasonic Doppler, and ultrasonic transit time.

The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSDGC) sponsored this test.  This report provides an overview of performance test procedures, outlines instrument specifications and includes performance test results for instruments manufactured by:

These workshop proceedings document presentations regarding the selection, installation effects, measurement uncertainty, and calibration of flowmeters.  In addition, the proceedings include presentations regarding the application and operation of various types of flowmeters including; open channel flow, Doppler, pulse Doppler, magnetic, orifice plates, thermal mass, transit time, Venturi and vortex shedding.

These proceedings were used at interactive workshops sponsored by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Stickney Water Reclamation Plant in Chicago, Illinois in 2002, sponsored by the City of Toronto, Ashbridges Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ontario, Canada in 2001 and sponsored by Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District's, Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elk Grove, California in 2001.
